DIPSTICK RECALIBRATION

DAX RUSH WITH FORD 1.6/1.8/2.0ltr OHC (PINTO) ENGINE

Information from DJ Sportscars

The engine installation angle that the Ford Motor Company uses for their 'Pinto' engine varies slightly from model to model but is generally around five degrees, rear end down.

The installation angle for this same engine when fitted to the DAX Rush is approximately half of a degree, front end down. This difference is well within the permitted operating range that the Ford Motor Company allows but the original Ford dipstick obviously needs to be recalibrated to ensure that the correct quantity of oil is measured into the engine.

Most 'Pinto' engines have their dipsticks located at the rear of the block on the induction side of the engine. At this location, the change in engine installation angle requires the dipstick to be recalibrated by 17mm. This can be achieved either by adding a new maximum mark to the dipstick, 17mm lower than the original, or by shortening the dipstick tube by 17mm.
